JEEP 2021-2022 GLADIATOR PARTS & ACCESSORIES

In 2019 Jeep introduced the all-new Gladiator to their lineup. The Jeep Gladiator is a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited based pickup truck, similar to the Jeep Scrambler from the 80’s. To enhance performance on and off-road, Jeep paired the Gladiator with a 3.0L turbocharged 6-cylinder diesel engine for the 2021 model year. This 3.0L V6 engine was known as the “EcoDiesel” and it was also found in the Ram 1500 and Jeep Wrangler JL. The 3.0L V6 was constructed by the Italian motor company VM Motori and was first used in the European market beginning in 2011. When bringing the engine to the United States some modifications had to be made to adhere to the emission standards of the North American market. The EcoDiesel Gladiator provided offroad enthusiasts with a diesel option that they could take off of the beaten path. The 3.0L EcoDiesel helped the Gladiator to become one of the most efficient trucks in its class while delivering 260 hp, 442 lb-ft of torque and a maximum towing capacity of 6,500lbs.

The 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel was constructed with a compacted graphite iron (CGI) block for a durable foundation. For additional weight savings heat-treated aluminum cylinder heads were used. Cast-aluminum pistons and forged steel connecting rods were found within the block. A common-rail fuel system that produced 29,000 PSI of rail pressure was featured and powered by a Bosch CP4.2 injection pump with solenoid-style injectors. The solenoid-style injectors could be externally serviced and allowed for 8 injection events per cycle. The 8 injection events per cycle resulted in reduced emissions and fuel consumption. A water-cooled Garrett 2056 variable-geometry turbocharger was paired with the engine and provided low-end torque while reducing emissions. In order to comply with EPA emission standards, the EcoDiesel featured all the same emission control systems as diesel engines in other 3/4-ton and 1-ton applications. A diesel particulate filter (DPF) caught and burned off excess soot. An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system was used to send exhaust gases back through the engine to lower NOx emissions. To reduce particulate matter emission even further, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system injected diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into the exhaust stream to convert nitrous oxide into water and nitrogen.

With the addition of the EcoDiesel to the Jeep Gladiator, diesel enthusiasts could get class leading fuel economy and great torque for the rough terrain the Gladiator was meant to traverse. The EcoDiesel was paired with the TorqueFlite 8HP75 8-Speed Automatic transmission with overdrive.
