FORD 2018-2021 F-150 POWERSTROKE 3.0L PARTS & ACCESSORIES

In 2017, Ford completely redesigned the body styles on their Super Duty trucks, including modernized grilles and headlights. One of the major modifications to the Super Duty trucks was switching to an aluminum-intensive body. Upgrading to an aluminum body created the potential of up to 700 lb in weight savings, even with the addition of a new heavy-duty frame and driveline components. The fully-boxed frame constructed of 95% high-strength steel is designed to withstand heavier towing loads. Along with the reinforced frame, Ford added heavier-duty drive shafts, axles and improved the 4-wheel-drive transfer case. With the addition of these heavy-duty components, payload and towing capabilities of the Super Duty trucks increased. Upgrades to the 6.7L Powerstroke engine were added in the 2017 model year to further increase horsepower and torque. To compete with other diesel truck manufacturers, Ford continued to make improvements to the Super Duty truck and released the third generation for the 2020 model year.

After the initial release of the 6.7L Powerstroke, Ford discovered some components that needed adjustments to ensure this engine could provide a long service life. One of the major concerns of the 2011-2016 6.7L Powerstroke was the plastic intercooler piping. For the 2017 model, Ford upgraded the plastic intercooler piping to a more durable silicone. The forged-steel connecting rods were upgraded to a larger design to improve overall durability in this engine. For the 2020 model year, Ford released the third generation of the 6.7L Powerstroke with many new upgrades that increased horsepower, torque and towing capacity. One of these new features for this engine is the new steel pistons that are shorter, heavier, and provide increased strength and reduced friction due to their smaller profile. The third generation 6.7L Powerstroke also features a revised 36,000 PSI fuel injection system, with up to 8 injection events per stroke and a more precise fuel injector spray. A two-piece intake manifold was added to the 6.7L Powerstroke to improve airflow to the engine. The Garret GT37 variable-geometry turbocharger was updated to provide the third generation 6.7L Powerstroke enhanced performance.

In the 2017 model year, the 6.7L Powerstroke stock power levels were upgraded to 440 hp and 925 lb-ft of torque, that was increased to 450 hp and 935 lb-ft of torque in 2018. These Super Duty trucks had a maximum towing capacity of 32,500 lb with a gooseneck towing or 21,000 lb conventional towing. Up until the 2020 model year, the 6.7L Powerstroke was paired with the 6R140 TorqShift Automatic transmission. The third generation 6.7L Powerstroke had stock power levels of 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. To handle the increase in horsepower and torque, the 10R140 10-Speed Automatic Transmission was introduced for the 2020 model year. Towing capacities increased to 37,000 lb for gooseneck towing and 24,200 lb for conventional towing. The 6.7L Powerstroke has continuously proved its strength and performance over the years, but there’s always room for improvements.
